BMW India has launched the new 520d M Sport variant in the 5 Series line-up at a price of Rs 68.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. With this, the luxury carmaker has also discontinued two variants from the 5 Series lineup, including the 520d Luxury Line and 50 Jahre M Edition. From now, the BMW 5 Series is offered in two variants, namely the 520d M Sport and 530i M Sport.

The new 520d M Sport variant of the BMW 5 Series features a sportier exterior with revised front and rear bumpers. The side profile of the luxury sedan is flanked by 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome exhausts, and M badging on blue brake calipers and the fender. Inside the cabin, the BMW 5 Series 520d M Sport gets M badging on leather steering wheel and door sills. Moreover, it comes equipped with BMW’s Laserlight technology, a Heads-Up display, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging and a Harman Kardon sound system. Mechanically, the BMW 5 Series remains unchanged. It is powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that generates 190 hp power and comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW 5 Series 530d, M5 Competition have been discontinued. The BMW 5 Series 530d variant was the top-spec variant in the manufacturer’s India line-up. It used to make use of a 3.0-litre diesel engine with 265 hp power. So now the BMW 5 Series became the only four-cylinder midsize luxury sedan in the Indian market. Additionally, the car maker has discontinued the M5 Competition variant that used to be powered by a 625hp V8 engine.

In the Indian market, the BMW 5 Series rivals the likes of the Lexus ES, Jaguar XF, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Volvo S90. The new 520d M Sport variant directly competes with the Mercedes-Benz E220d and the Jaguar XF D200.
