BMW India is preparing for the launch of the 2023 X1 SUV in India on January 28, 2023, at BMW Joytown Bengaluru. The X1 was first introduced in India in 2009 with rear-wheel drive and then in 2016 with front-wheel drive. This upcoming third generation of the SUV will also have a front-wheel drive setup.
The third generation X1 was unveiled globally in 2022 and will come with the option of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit that produces 136 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. The diesel engine remains the same 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine, generating 150 bhp of power and 360 Nm of torque. Both engines will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In terms of design, the new BMW X1 features a large chrome-heavy kidney grille with slim headlights that have inverted L-shaped DRLs. It also has chunky wheel arches and flush door handles. Compared to its predecessor, the new X1 is 43 mm longer, 22 mm wider, 43 mm taller, and has a 22 mm longer wheelbase.
Inside the cabin, the X1 boasts a new dashboard design with a curved display that includes a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, ADAS features, and park assist.
The new X1 will be available in two trims: X line and M sport. It is expected to start at a price of Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the SUV will compete with the Mercedes Benz GLA, Volvo XC40, and Audi Q3.
